the result of some very last minute organizing to counter-protest some fuckers wavin’ confederate flags in front of civil war monuments who were all pissy after make-shift plaques highlighting civil rights activists were hung on the fences surrounding the jeb stuart, stonewall jackson and jeff davis statues last night!

the signs say:

“CELEBRATE PEOPLE’S HISTORY” and “CONFEDERATE HISTORY IS RACIST HISTORY”

Yeah man! My room mates are so good at last-minute organizing!

What the fuck? Confederate history is not fucking racist. Way to take a few bad people and make it into a whole fucking culture. That is like saying Homosexuals are all feminine. Don’t be fucking ignorant. Confederate history is about the South culture, the way of life. That is not only racism. Yes there were racists, yes there was slavery. But slavery existed in Union too. The  war wasn’t just about slavery. he ONLY reason slavery got dragged into the war was because the South had the backing of Britain at the time, because they felt if the United States wanted so bad to secede, then they would of course help fight a battle against them to help more states to secede (Talk about bitter). So Lincoln threw slavery as an issue because no other countries would dare then help an ongoing political issue. It might surprise a lot of people, that 80% of the people fighting on the side of the Confederacy did not even own slaves. Owning slaves required a LOT of money, that the majority of southerners did not possess. It was about two different cultures existing in one and argument about how they should exist. The Confederates were people who fought for an agricultural way of life, who wanted their fair share in the new rising US. The northern states had began to industrialize and began to make their economy completely different from the South. The Civil War wasn’t just about slavery, money, and power. Its main purpose was to decide if states rights should be over federal rights. The north wanted it to be the federal rights over states right, and the south wanted it to be states rights over federal rights. Slavery was a part of it, but it wasn’t the main reason for the Civil War, come on people get smart.

I don’t care if you call Slavery racism, but don’t target ONE group who implemented slavery. The North, the South, OTHER countries used slaves. Confederate history is a CULTURAL history. Grow up and actually LEARN about cultures before you protest against something you know nothing about.

LOLNO.

The Civil War was about slavery. Yes, “states’ rights”—TO OWN SLAVES. The South had a culture of SLAVERY that needed to change. Hell, sometimes I’m convinced it STILL needs to change.

STFUConfederates, where are you?

Really? You are a fucking idiot. I did NOT say it wasn’t about slavery, do you read? It’s not the ONLY fucking reason.

Unfortunately, there is no “simple” reason. The causes of the war were a complex series of events, including slavery that began long before the first shot was fired. Competing nationalisms, political turmoil, the definition of freedom, the preservation of the Union, the fate of slavery and the structure of our society and economy could all be listed as significant contributing factors in America’s bloodiest conflict.

So before you say Confederates just fought for a racism point, it had OTHER factors involved. Don’t be so closed minded.

Well yes, of course there were other factors. Not denying that.

The political factor was the state right to own slaves. Ergo, racism was a huge and probably the most important contributing factor.

Why is this so hard to acknowledge?

100% of the economy relied on slaves, so the amount of people who actually owned them is pointless.  Think of how corporations work today.  Sure, there may only be a couple extremely wealthy people who own all the wealth, but the entire economy relies on dealings with them.

And the war was about the rights to own slaves, exactly.  You can’t say it was about STATE’S RIGHTS when the particular right in question was slavery.  They weren’t fighting about welfare and abortion and marriage and immigration.  They were fighting about their economy, which was based on slavery.

I can’t wait for the next reply:  SOME SLAVES FOUGHT FOR THE CONFEDERACY AND ENJOYED THEIR LIVES
