Acura commercial casting call requested 'friendly, not too dark' African-American

Someone associated with casting the popular commercial told TMZ that one of the reasons they requested a “not too dark” African-American was because lighting and special effects would get tricky otherwise.
Ya know what might make it less “tricky?” Having more dark people of color in media so that lighting directors can get better at lighting them and the white actors they work with! Heh? Heh?
Just a thought.

Mitt Romney: I Can Relate To Black People, My Ancestors Once Owned Slaves

I understand how difficult it can be for an African-American in today’s society. In fact, I can relate to black people very well indeed. My ancestors once owned slaves, and it is in my lineage to work closely with the black community. However, just because they were freed over a century ago doesn’t mean they can now be freeloaders. They need to be told to work hard, and the incentives just aren’t there for them anymore. When I’m president I plan to work closely with the black community to bring a sense of pride and work ethic back into view for them.
This is a fucking joke, right?

Oh god, it’s a satire site! Thank god! *wall slides*
“What Do Students At Brigham Young University Know About Black People?”
There are so many problematic things in this video. I don’t even know where to start.
For poor minorities, entrepreneurship in small business is the key to future wealth. This is understood thoroughly by most of the Asians, partially by Latinos, and to a tragically small degree by much of the American black community.

“In Texas we have certain statutory obligations to promote patriotism and to promote the free enterprise system.” .. Cynthia Dunbar, an evangelical Christian member of the Texas Board of Education on the decision to re-write school textbooks to favor a right-wing agenda.
“Statutory obligations”???

No seriously. They’re assassinating everyone’s brains with this bullshit.

Hi! I follow your Tumblr, WTF White Privilege. I’m white and acknowledge the fuckton of privilege that it comes with. I really appreciate the work that you do and the important conversations that your blog starts.
I’m attaching a JPG of a screengrab that I took from a (former) Facebook friend’s wall. When I saw her status advertising a “MLK day eve party with 40s and fried chicken,” I lost my damn mind. Then, reading the comments, I started crying hard rage-y femme tears. I don’t understand how these people can FUCKING APPROPRIATE STEREOTYPES OF BLACK CULTURE ON THE BIRTHDAY OF A CIVIL RIGHTS LEGEND. I am so angry and sad and hurt. I grew up in Atlanta. I’ve seen some racist bullshit. But never among a group of “progressive” identifying people my own age. Aren’t we past this shit? I mean, honestly, on a holiday meant to honor and celebrate and remember the CLEARLY ONGOING struggle for equality, these idiots are mocking black people. Like, stereotypes are what they associate with MLK?!?! I know I shouldn’t be surprised, I guess, but I’m just so fucking mad.
Anyway, I write this because #1) I need someone to be on my level about the litany of things wrong with this (not the least of which is the dickwad who refers to calling the NCAA. THE NCAA!!! ARE YOU KIDDING?!?!), and #2) I want to post this somewhere that I know people will see it. I don’t have many followers on Tumblr, so it seemed like a waste to just put it on my page (diabeticcelebrity.tumblr.com). So, if you would oblige me, please post this on your feed. I don’t care if you do or don’t link it to my Tumblr.
Thanks for all the work you do.

So I spent the last two days in & around moving into our new place on Twitter trying to convey to @BertShowBert just why his letter asking for permission from Muhammad Ali for his 9 year old son to dress up in blackface as part of a report was offensive & wrong. I explained, other black people…
